Recognizing a rare opportunity to work with a blank slate, famed architect Morris Lapidus turned his attention to planning a city that would become North Lauderdale. North Lauderdale was originally conceived as "The City of Tomorrow" by famed architect Morris Lapidus, fresh from his success in redefining the glittering Collins Avenue in Miami Beach with his work on the Fontainebleau Hotel, Eden Roc, Americana and other neo-baroque moderne hotel designs.

The recreation division supports a wide range of sports programs including softball, baseball, football, basketball, soccer and swimming. The city also holds many special events throughout the year, from their famous Haunted Hamptons Halloween celebration to the Easter Eggsstravaganza and Holiday Parade to help unite the Community.
