Weston was incorporated as a city in 1996. Much of the city was developed by the Arvida corporation. When the grand opening took place, in the late 70s, Mickey and Goofy were at the gala event, as the Arvida company was a subsidiary of the Disney Corporation. Shortly afterwards neighboring Communities to the north (Bonaventure) and south were invited to join in the city of Weston, and did.
