Curb Appeal is referred to as the perception that your house gives from the curb. When selling your house, you want to project the proper impression from the curb, or when an interested buyer first sees your house.
Many Real Estate experts advice you to work on the outside of the house first, but unless there is a major project involved, it is probably best to save it for last. There are two main reasons for this.
First, the first steps in preparing the interior of the house for sale are easier. They also help develop the proper mind set required for selling – beginning to think of your “house” as a marketable commodity.
Second, the exterior is the most important as this is what sets up the homebuyer for what to expect inside.
So take a walk across the street and take a good look at your house. Look at nearby houses too, and see how yours compares. Take a drive around your neighborhood, how do the other houses appear?
One of the first thing to remember while looking at your house, is that is will soon no longer be “your” house. you want this to be something that anyone can call home. Therefore if you have an unfinished project that you want to complete for your personal reasons – this is not the time for it.
We want to make the curb appeal gently mix in with the neighborhood along with giving the impression that the house is well maintained and in good working condition. You landscape must look good.
Here are a few things you should do:
- Pressure Clean the driveway and sidewalks
- Pluck All weeds
- Lay down fresh mulch
- Paint exterior if needed
Have a friend or two come by and give you their perception of the curb appeal. Let them know that you are selling your house and that their advice is appreciated. You can also contact one of our Real Estate professionals for their opinion and advice on your curb appeal.
It may be time to go to work. Remember nothing expensive.
